If you are adventurous, you can go back in time and explore the same spot that Columbus explored on his second voyage to the New World at Salt River Bay. The St. Croix Heritage Trail begins here. This self guided driving tour is 72 miles long and features major points of interest from architectural ruins and restorations to scenic areas. The trail ends at the Danish forts of Christiansted. You can trace the evolution of the island from its original Indian inhabitants to the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1493 and onward to colonial times of cotton and sugar plantations.

You can furthur explore colonial times with a visit to historic Estate Whim Plantation, a beautifully restored 18th century sugar plantation with windmill and sugar factory ruins.

And don't miss a trip to Buck Island, the only underwater national monument in America. This spectacular underwater marine world consists of 704 acres of turquoise water, pristine coral reefs and a snorkeling trail with many exotic and colorful fish.

If diving is your passion, St. Croix has many diverse opportunities for world class diving that will appeal to divers of all levels of experience. Wrecks. Caves. Reefs and Walls. Dive a shipwreck at Butler Bay. Or a vertical wall at Cane Bay.

Or, horseback ride through the rain forest on the west end of St. Croix.

Golf anyone? St. Croix has two 18-hole courses. The Robert Trent Jones designed par 72 Carambola Golf Course is nestled in a valley on the northwestern side of St. Croix. Carambola Golf Club has been awarded a gold medal by GOLF Magazine as one of the best golf resorts in the world. Golf Digest has given Carambola a four star rating!

The Buccaneer Golf Course is located on the eastern end of St. Croix, a 5 minute drive from the historic town of Christiansted. This par 70 18-hole golf course encompasses 5,668 yards with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. According to Travel and Leisure Golf, 2007, "A Trio of holes plays along one of the resort's three pristine white sand beaches, considered to be among the Caribbean's finest."
